Family therapy is a means by which two or more members of a family work together with a therapist. It targets blood relatives, extended family or a group of people you consider family.
Family is an extremely important part of ones mental health since it provides a platform for our own identity and is often our main support system. In family therapy an individual is not the focus, but the family patterns and dynamics are paid more attention. It therefore provides a safe and confidential environment to the family, which is then utilised in order to provide awareness, change and growth together. It is therefore aimed to provide better understanding between family members, effective communication, boundaries, appreciation for each other, and greater capacity for emotional support and to handle challenges and crisis together amongst others. At State of Mind each session lasts for approximately an hour.
